Our Produce

Our produce varies from week to week based on what is in season and is available from local farms.  Of course, there is more than just produce in the box as well.  Free Range eggs and fresh baked bread are available for those who desire them.

There is a great deal of media hype surrounding "organic food" and whether or not it's worth it.  Opinions range from it being a complete waste of money to it's the only way to go.  Because of the research we're knowledgeable about, we're definitely, without question, in the camp of "it's the only way to go."  Yet the public, the media, and government bodies seem to be unaware of this particular research in most regions of the world.  We seek to change that.

Besides all the obvious reasons of why organic is better, let us focus in on one here:  When plants are sprayed with fungicide, they don't have to defend themselves from the invading fungi, as the chemicals have done it for them.  This is a critical step in nature that has been altered.  The consequences of this one single seemingly inconsequential thing are extreme.  You see, when un-sprayed plants defend themselves from an attacking fungus - which tends to occur most often late in the growing cycle of the plant (another reason you don't want to pick them early, which is the case for non-local food that must be shipped), the plant manufactures certain plant chemicals that are toxic to the fungus.  If the plant never goes through this phase, these plant chemicals never get created.  These plant chemicals play a very important role in the human body, in terms of protecting us from cancer and allowing us to overcome it.  To learn more about how they actually function and what they do, visit:  http://www.hdfoster.com/salvestrol

Here is an example of what foods are typically available during the year.  (G means greenhouse.)
